“Prefab House of the Year 2010-2015” – a book that introduces modern wooden houses is now available in bookstores

The Estonian Woodhouse Association in cooperation with the Estonian Wooden Houses Cluster has published a book that compiles the works submitted to the “Pre-Fab House of the Year” contest; the book provides a thorough overview of Estonian wooden houses both here and abroad.

The Chairman of the Management Board Estonian Woodhouse Association Sven Mats noted that wooden houses made in Estonia can, among other places, be found in Japan, Iceland, Australia and the States. “Estonia is the biggest exporter of wooden houses in Europe and we manufacture the most wooden houses per capita in the world,” said Mats.

He added that a wooden house no longer represents a farm house in the middle of fields and forests, “These days we produce wooden kindergartens, schools, office buildings and residential skyscrapers,  as well as beautiful private houses, summer cottages and garden houses. Building with wood has no limitations,” added Mats.

Lauri Kivil, the project manager of the Estonian Wooden Houses Cluster said that this book brings together the current competencies and experiences of Estonian wooden house manufacturers in a single publication.

“The book probably contains only a fraction of what the entire sector accomplishes in reality, however, it still gives a good overview of the superior engineering techniques and architectural level of modern wooden houses. So our slogan “Conscious Future” perfectly applies to the book, the buildings in it and the manufacturers behind them,” Kivil noted.

The book includes 61 factory-built houses manufactured by Estonian wooden house manufacturers all over the world. The book was published in the framework of the “Pre-Fab House of the Year” contest and includes the winning projects of the years 2010-2015.

Copies of the “Prefab House of the Year 2010-2015” are available for purchase at bookstores Apollo and Rahva Raamat.
